The dpl® Flex Pad is an FDA-cleared, OTC Class II medical device for pain relief. This flexible system can be used anywhere on the body. Unlike a heating pad, infrared light therapy works below the skin’s surface reaching deep into tissues, stimulating cells and increasing circulation to target pain at the source. Medical-grade LEDs:

Note: You will only see the red LEDs light up when the device is turned on. The other LEDs are in the infrared light spectrum and cannot be seen with the human eye. Please know that if you see red lights while the device is turned on, the device is working (pattern of lights may vary).

How to Use & Troubleshoot

Operating Instructions

  1. Fully charge device (2-4 hours).
    • Your device may have a residual charge from the factory out of the box, indicated by a solid blue charging light when you turn it on. For best results, fully deplete this charge before plugging your device in.
    • Your device will require 2-4 hours to fully charge each time. The red indicator light will turn solid (no longer blinking) when charging is complete. A full charge will provide 2 to 3 full 20-minute treatments.
    • DO NOT recharge battery after each 20-minute treatment. For best results, you should fully deplete the battery before recharging. Failure to do so will progressively shorten battery life.
    • Battery charge will diminish over time. For best results, conduct treatments within 48 hours of charging.
  2. Wash and dry treatment area prior to use.
  3. Place device directly on the skin over the desired treatment area and secure strap.
  4. To use Large compression strap, fasten center of strap to back of Pad, fasten strap by attaching two ends.
  5. To use Small compression strap, fasten ends of strap to back of Pad, adjust to comfortable fit.
  6. Press the power button to start the device (may require double press). Device must be unplugged to turn on, it will not turn on while plugged in. A blue light on the battery pack will show when the device is turned on.
  7. Leave device over the treatment area for 15-20 minutes.
  8. The device is equipped with an auto shut-off function at 20 minutes.
  9. Press the power button at any time prior to auto shut off to stop the device.
  10. Device may be used multiple times per day. Do not exceed 3 treatments per day, per treatment area.

Troubleshooting

Device not turning on:

  • Is the device fully charged?
  • Is the power button turned on? A blue light on the battery pack will show when the device is turned on.
  • If device still does not turn on, call Customer Service at 1 (800) 337-9565.

Device is not charging:

  • Is USB charging cord firmly inserted into device? (Does power indicator light turn on?)
  • Try different wall outlet to confirm power is available.
  • If device still does not charge, call Customer Service at 1 (800) 337-9565.

Device shuts off abruptly prior to completion of 20-minute treatment.

  • Device is designed to shut off automatically after 20 minutes.
  • Device may shut off automatically after multiple repeated uses if the device exceeds desired temperature. Allow device to cool for several minutes and try again.
  • If the device continues to shut off prior to 20 minutes, please contact Customer Service at 1 (800) 337-9565.

Some lights appear not to be on:

  • The Infrared (IR) light spectrum is not visible to the human eye. These lights will look as if they are not on but are operating properly. If red lights are on, the device is operating as designed.

    DPL flex does work for pain and inflammation. I used it twice a day for one week I noticed pain was almost gone and the inflammation was reduced by 90%. it took me 5-7 days to see the results. the only “downside” the charge worked for 3 sessions if you have multiple areas it must be recharged. read the instructions make sure it is completed depleted before recharging.

      Hi Sally,
      Thanks for your feedback. While we are always striving to improve our devices, there are good reasons for what you’re calling out.
      Our first priority for all our devices is to ensure they are capable of providing the proper optical energy output which requires quite a bit of energy, hence the charge time, and limits on treatment time.
      Secondly, we have to ensure the Flex Pad retains the necessary flexibility to comfortably conform to the variety of treatment areas it can be applied to.
      These two factors provide critical performance limitations on the battery life. If we have a larger battery, it reduces the device’s flexibility. If we extend the power demand, we reduce the efficacy of the treatment which is never an acceptable trade-off for us.
      To help ensure your Flex Pad is ready to use when you need it, we would recommend that once you’ve completely depleted the battery (typically 3 full 20 minute treatments from a full charge), leave the device on charge until you need it again.

    Love my flex-belt! Bought this to help ease the pain in my feet due to diabetic neuropathy. Still early in the therapy but have seen a decrease in the pain I’ve been experiencing in the middle of the night. Trying this on my lower back pain too. Highly recommend this device.

Hi Carmela, we do not currently offer replacement batteries for the Flex Pad XL. Battery banks can be purchased from most major retailers such as Best Buy, Target, Amazon and online. Battery banks are available with various storage capacities. Choose a battery bank that will provide you with the storage capacity to fit usage and budget. Answer
"Output" can mean a few different things. You can find the power adapter output printed on the adapter itself. For the Flex Pad, it is: 5V 1A DC. In terms of optical output, all our devices meet or exceed FDA requirements for irradiance output. The joule rating of each device depends on the treatment time and will increase with repeated treatments. The Flex Pad features an effective combination of Infrared (880nm) and Red (660nm) LEDs.
